"I work
in an abstract expressionist mode, building the sculpture usually with no preconceived plan. I like the angular expression of steel. The constructive process affords me freedom to experiment in many directions.”

Vitae

Billy Sherry is a graduate of Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., where he studied sculpture under Leonard Cave. His early work in carved wood was soon replaced with large steel abstract pieces after he met and worked with the French sculptor Marc Berlet in Miami. His work is abstract, using the natural geometry of steel in formal and often lyrical statements. His sculpting is grounded in the tradition of Gonzalez, Smith and Caro, yet expressive of a clear and individual style. He was a founding member of The (x) Gallery, a cooperative of contemporary art in Nantucket, MA. For 20 years, his work was shown with The Art Cabinet Nantucket. For the past 5 years, his sculptures were on display at Tudor City Greens, in New York City.

Billy is currently accepting sculpture commissions in 2024.
